I remember one Bible study in particular that he wrote - "Authenticity" I read that as a teenager and it opened a door for me into existentialism and more to fact the idea of buidling a personal ethic that was based not on the surroundings of the community but based upon your own Christian ideals and attempting to bring them as congruent as possible to your actions, words, and thoughts.

It would seem that Chuck Colson needs to re-read his Bible study...

Take it easy...Mundane Egghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07574308125771737851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11057324.post-1128018415682221132005-09-29T13:26:00.000-05:002005-09-29T13:26:00.000-05:00I shared Jon's surprise and disagreement with Mr. ...I shared Jon's surprise and disagreement with Mr. Colson's respone to Mark Fell. I don't often disagree with Mr. Colson and have a deep respect for him so his comments took me by surprise. I wondered if there was more going on than I knew about. I wondered if Mark Fell had hit a sore spot with Mr. Colson.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11057324.post-1121802952242414912005-07-19T14:55:00.000-05:002005-07-19T14:55:00.000-05:00Thanks, Jon, for posting this. I agree with what you said about how you felt when you read Born Again and how you feel about some of his comments now. Thanks for voicing this for me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11057324.post-1118060907716270122005-06-06T07:28:00.000-05:002005-06-06T07:28:00.000-05:00Jon,I am surprised, and somewhat not surprised by ...Jon,
I am surprised, and somewhat not surprised by rather disappointed, that responses haven't come in to echo your heart on this issue.
It seems to be common in today's thin-skin christianity to elevate people in the church based on the same criteria that determines status, prestige and notoriety in the world. Having seen Mr. Colson shortly after the founding of Prison Fellowship, it was my prayer (then and now) that the ways of the world would not trump yet another humble effort to take the gospel to the world. And, hopefully again, a gospel of other than complete fidelity to Jesus can still reach some people in darkness. But, sadly we quickly are deceived by the myth that the ground at the foot of the cross is anything but level.
Our narcissistic, nationalistic, nihilistic conception of authority and power in America should never be allowed to co-opt the faith for which so many have submitted their lives to the only one deserving of our trust.
You are right to challenge this distortion of the gospel and I thank you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
